Many people in our culture believe that history is meaningless. Others have said that history is a cycle, that it keeps continuing endlessly in a circle.
The Christian view of history is far from cyclical; it is linear.
But the Word of God declares that history is His story—that God Himself is the author of history.
He began history when He created the world, and He alone will bring history to an end when Christ appears in majesty, splendor, glory, and power. Therefore, the Christian view of history is far from cyclical; it is linear. All things will come to pass according to the plan and foreknowledge of God. Indeed, this is the message of the Scriptures. If you read the Bible from cover to cover, it's there, and so it is there in the second letter of the apostle Paul to the Thessalonian church.
This month, take time to consider what it has to say about the end of history—and what this has to do with you. May your heart be encouraged and your life impacted as we consider together what it means to live our lives in the light of the nearness of history's end.
In Christ,
Michael Youssef, Ph.D.
